this was a game of two very different performances from town in each half, with town fielding five changes to the starting line up , i dont know if this was a full strength Coventry team
whilst town had the bulk of the possession for the first twenty five minutes this did not translate in to any quality in the last third , town then stepped up a gear and created a number of chances in the space of five minutes Payne puts town ahead with Gnahoua extending the lead 0-2 , Nolan , Payne and Lewis all had chances to extend the lead, Coventry's defense looked a shambles and looked ponderous going forward our second keeper was between the sticks had nothing to do all half.Town were in complete dominating this game whilst hardly having to go out of second gear.
Town came out for the second half at was very strange i dont know if it was complacency but they were very lethargic ,Jones brought some vital pace and spark to Coventry as they pressed town as town struggled to wake up, it felt as if they had gone in to a low gear and were unable to galvanize themselves as things got turned upside down , sloppy defending was a factor as jones contributed to Coventry's first goals, things got worse as Coventry were awarded a penalty to do something that seemed impossible in the first half! things got worse as Bolton made a very rash and dangerous challenge to be RED carded, all of which galvanized Coventry, they hit the bar a couple of crucial saves kept town hanging in the game by there finger nails .A reshuffle of the team and a few substitution resulted in Riley coming on. as penalties looked to be looming with five minutes of extra time and penalties looking as the clock run down(2 minutes left) Riley probably scores one of the best free kicks of his career with a 25 yard stunner.
did Town deserve the win i would have to say no they did not as town were best for one half and Coventry were best in the second football is cruel yes it is ,you could say town now play till the final whistle. last season town would have just collapsed they did not and won with ten men however we cant escape the reality that town threw away a comfortable two goal lead , for the first time this year town struggled the normal intensity just disappeared for most of the second half were second best. this highlights the unpredictability of football but equally the importance of when you are top kill the game off.
