North Stand for home fans versus Dagenham?

Postby dand77 » Tue Apr 17, 2012 4:17 pm

Is it possible the club could relocate Dagenham fans into block 1, put Portable toilets and outdoor catering in the North East corner for them to use? I ask his becuase if needed home fans can be possibly put in the North Stand in an attempt to sell the ground out finally once and for all on our promotion mission? I know the club did this during the Accrington and Grimsby games at the old meadow and this would be a way to do this at the Greenhous Meadow. It seems pointless letting no more than 100 Dagenham fans have a whole end that holds 1,750. I think the club should give it real go, try and really fill the ground for our final match. It would be nice to finally get more than 9,000 for a home game.

I cannot see that such a change will improve attendance. The attendance for last night’s key promotion game (v Port Vale) was 7,678 (805). Despite tonight’s attendance being free for those who attended the abandoned match and much discounted for others, there were only 6,873 home fans. Since the stadium capacity is 9,875 I cannot see that we will get another 3,000 fans in paying full prices.

The highest attendances at home in the last three seasons have been:
(09/10) v Port Vale - 7,096 - (H) 5,941 (A) 1,155
(10/11) v Accrington - 7,038 - (H) 6,664 (A) 374
(10/11) v Oxford - 8,817 - (H) 7,889 (A) 928
(10/11) v Torquay - 7,038 - (H) 7,666 (A) 786 [Play-off]
(11/12) v Port Vale - 7,678 - (H) 6,873 (A) 805 [Free/discounted]

With the capacity of 9,785 minus 100 Dagenham & Redbridge fans (as suggested), the home attendance would have to be 9,685. The most we have had in the last three seasons was 7,889 against Oxford – still 1,796 short.

With a stadium capacity of 9,785, and the away being 1,750 (as suggested), the seating for home fans is 8,035 – we have only got close to that on two occasions (the games against Oxford and Torquay last season).

Maybe, if all goes well with the next three games, we will see bigger attendance and the stadium fuller next season. :)

Discussions have been taking place about use of the North Stand and there are possibilities, but as SaintShrew points out we'd need to find about 1000 - 1500 fans to fill out the North Stand.

If we can take over 16,000+ once and 20,000+ twice for 3 grand day outs at Wembley, 14,000+ to Stoke and have had many 5 figure gates at the old meadow then i'm sure there is a way to fill our little new ground. Its a good opportunaity to finally fill this ground or at least try. 100 Dagenham fans in a 1,750 stand isn't really putting an effort in to try and sell it out. In all honesty as a club there just isn't enough hype in the Shropshire Star or on the local radio until we actually achieve something like making a final, well why not put that hype in all next week especially if we are successful at Accrington tomorrow. Just being unbeaten at home all season should do it as well as any promotion to suit. I'm sure we were told the Oxford game was sold out the Thursday before the game last season. Its about getting bums on seats, there is more I want to see other than promotion this season than us finally filling our ground to capacity.

By all means we haven't as yet but if we do :) I thought last years game versus Oxford was a home sell out as far as tickets could be sold? The empty seats I thought were Sovereign club seats and restricted view seats?

The game is all ticket for Dagenham & Redbridge fans and they have received an initial allocation of 200 tickets in the North Stand.

Both were home sell outs, meaning some people missed out, we will never know how many.

Why do we need to find 1000-1500? Even an extra 500 Shrews fans would bring in more support and money.

As opposed to Oxford last season where promotion was out of our hands, this Saturday there is a very real chance we will do it. This fact alone means there is the potential for more than Oxford last year. Tickets sales online look extremely impressive considering there are still 6 days to go, well on course for a sell out.

We need to be doing all we can to get the place packed and not waste these empty seats. Big games like these always bring irregular and new fans to the ground, if they witness a promotion with a carnival atmosphere it may just entice them to come again and perhapos buy a season ticket.

If we've got the space we must surely be looking to utilise it. Surely the Chairman can see the pound signs?

Who has bought all of the tickets in block one when there are still far more attactive seats in Blocks 17 and 14 .  perhaps the whole of block one has been allocated to Daggenham and the town are sitting an announcement about the north stand.

:D
Just hang on to what weve got dont give up till we reach the top.

Block1 is the normal bloke that Martin James uses for the school groups.
