gillingham game

town are on there travels again as they play the gills ,there coach Pennock is another coach stressing the importance of match fitness, like town the Gills were lucky not to get relegated last season. Gills were busy in the preseason transfer marker with a mixture of forwards , midfielders ,defenders and a keeper . one player town fans will know is Tom Eaves who has signed for an undisclosed fee back in 2010 Bolton paid £200 K for him i would think his confidence will be sky high after scoring a hat trick against Southend . the Gills have made a stuttering start with 2 draws and 2 loses after there last performance they will be very keen to register there first home win.
you would expect them to throw the sink at town in the opening minutes so town need to weather the storm and play the way they have this season in the league by pressing high and playing with a fast tempo a mixed performance against Coventry will hopefully be just a blip, seeing the goals we conceded both were down to defensive errors Coventry player Jones should not been able to leave four town players stranded as he was free to cross, equally there forward should not have been able to go through the heart of the defense right through the gap between two defenders and get fouled which resulted in a penalty. our defense has not been put under any sustained attacks or pressure, after throwing a two goal lead away and Hurst post match interview about there second half performance or more accurately there lack of it, i hope lessons have been learnt this is a tough game but if town play to there best we have a good chance if we have a repeat of the second half against Coventry we will struggle ,some fans were not impressed with our second choice keeper let us hope he can prove the doubters wrong .

the Gills new forward Conor Wilkinson has played four games and already picked up a red and yellow card , not that i advocate anything unprofessional but if he is prone to picking cards up i wonder why is he getting carded so many times

the Gills make the brighter start , only two good saves by Macfillivray and a goal disallowed for off side kept town with a clean sheet for the first 18 minutes, Eaves % Nash were a thorn in the side of the towns defense ,Town made a slow start this was compunded by the Gills wining the 50 - 50 balls in our third , towns defence contributed to there own problems as both Bolton and Brown made errors both left and right back were struggling as the gills managed to turn them and get behind the center backs ,this was compounded as towns deference failed to pick up some off the ball runs and diagonal runs.town slowly got back in the game both Morris and Rodman had chances Rodman should have done better as a poor first touch and fluffed shot combined to go wide.
Whalley and Rodman created problems from free play . Morris smashed a shot in the net a sublime cross from Whalley was headed in form the far post by Rodman , both teams looked dangerous going forward as the Gills defence were bailed out by there keeper.

i appreciate that you have to find a balance when you are 0-2 ,you dont wont to be caught out by the counter attack but for most games a third goal will be enough, instead despite the Gills wobbly defense we only made there keeper to have one save , town seemed content to sit on there lead ,The gills goal will require some scrutiny from the coaching staff as none of the defenders picked up the run to allow a free header 1-2 not surprisingly this galvanized the Gills as for the last 20 minutes town were struggling to get out of there own third ,Brown had his pocket picked on two occasions Godfrey bailed out the defense as town hanged on ,Town came close to throwing this game away as they sat deep and invited pressure , in last few minutes of extra time Payne and lewis were free on a counter attack and whilst after scoring three goals i can understand Payne going for the shoot Lewis was free for an easy tap in
Town got lucky they created there own problems and towns defense looked less than convincing

seen the goals two well worked goals by town with some emphatic finishing , the Gills goal not sure who the players was but he just did not pick up the run of the gills player which gave him a free header in the box
