Oxford game

Postby zenfootball » Mon Aug 21, 2017 6:24 pm

town are on there travels against newly promoted Oxford , who seem to have splashed the cash two former wolves player, ivo pekalski a swedish under 21 player , Joseph miguel a former Barcelona B player another team who have strengthened there defense and midfield. Oxford have scored five goals and conceded one , whilst winning there first two games
so this might be a tougher test for towns defense. town have made a bright start even getting praise from channel five, so can town build a platform at home to reduce the pressure when they are on the road. this should be an interesting challenge against a club who seem to have decided to look for players form the higher divisions to help them in the adjustment to league 1 .there are some big clubs with deep pockets so this looks like a very tough league.

another impressive town performance for 59 minutes town made a good Oxford team look fairly ordinary. town are so much fitter this year as they pressed Oxford all over the park, town became more and more dominant as the half progressed ,we had a lot of possession and a number of chances ,morris ,nolan and rodman had chances a controversial moment in the first half was when Whalleys appeals for a penalty was turned down .Towns midfield look well balanced Nolan is just pure quality , Godfrey had a very good game whilst Ogogo ran himself into the ground and a solid well drilled defense limited Oxfords chances ,town should have put this game away by half time .
another controversial moment as Morris chip was ruled not to cross the line ,the commentators and morris clearly thought it did ! so that is one for the highlights
Oxford double substitution had an impact as Henderson made his first save ,he then made a fine save to keep the score 0 -0 town were unable to clear from a corner only for Oxford to score a scrappy goal a further fine save from Henderson ,Towns double substitution also had an impact Lewis put it on a plate for Payne to have a simple tap in, Payne will probably still be wondering how he he did not score a second from the best chance of the game, Payne had another chance to finish off the game before the ref blew the final whistle.
Town deserve credit for coming back from behind it sounded as if town were the better team but at the end of the day it is goals and points that count.

as Hurst rightly said if you look to our last game against oxford and today performance it shows the progress town have made.
personally i felt the ref gave most of the 50 - 50 decision to oxford .

anyone who just saw the Sky sport highlights could easily think Oxford were the better team, they were not and and for 80 minutes town were the better team, the goal we conceded was like a pin ball machine with the ball bouncing everywhere .looking at morris chip it did look as if it crossed the line
Hurst is doing an amazing job to have molded this team ,if i was been picky i do wonder would it be worth letting Nolan take the corners, whilst Whalley approach play and speed cause teams problems , he takes the bulk of the set pieces and his delivery is generally poor
