wimbeldon game

Postby zenfootball » Tue Aug 08, 2017 11:01 am

town have a tough first game against Wimbeldon , what you see is what you get a physical combative team who play till the final whistle, there focus seems to have been to strengthen there midfield with Tom Soares and Liam Trotter, Trotter has a lot of experience of playing at a higher level they have also brought in former Gills forward Cody McDonald
whilst town focused on, team building, improving fitness and stamina whilst away in Portugal they will have played 3 games in 7 days, it will be interesting to see if hurst sticks with one forward and packing the midfield or changes things for this game.

town will need to be focused ,consistent and if we are to get something from this game improve things in the last third, bryn morris is doubtful with a knee injury.( out for at least 6 weeks)

towns travelling fans will have enjoyed towns performance today ,for the first 65 minutes apart from a Henderson save and a Bolton block it was virtually one way traffic, town work on and off the ball was very effective in keeping Wimbledon contained, a well worked move was finished off by a Rodman header as town lead 0-1 .
Long saved shots from Dodds and Morris as Morris also hit the post,Towns winger were really opening up Wimbledon as Nolan pulled the strings from midfield, i am sure he is going to get a lot of comparisons to Woods .Ogogo is a real powerhouse and had a good game Bolton looked good going forward and in defense.
at one stage i heard the commentators say town had 14 shots to Wimbledon 2 , town had the bulk of possession the only thing missing was a second goal considering the performance this is not meant to be critical but when you are that dominant, with the amount of chances and possessions that town had we should have killed this game off and be three up ,on a few occasions Rodman burst through but the final ball was poor.

town started the second half as they did the first long made another save from a Smith shot. town had some half chances and pressed Wimbledon, town made a few unnecessary challenges that resulted in free kicks( Bolton was lucky not to get a red card as he escaped with a yellow) as a set piece seemed to be Wimbledon best chance to get back in the game Taylor caused a few problems for the defense.
back to back wins ,back to back league clean sheets, all that is missing is more composure and more clinical finishing in the last third, the thing that is noticeable from last season is, last year we looked ponderous going forward , we look fitter, we have moor pace and Nolan is a vital link up player between midfield and attack.

we have all had plenty of experiences of town starting brightly going one up not killing off a team and then losing the game, whilst town did not kill off this game in the first half, they did not concede any soft goals , they closed out the game and they won .so an encouraging start as we face Rochdale next at home .

seen the goal and highlights , Rodman took his goal well but Morris should have done a lot better two really good chances both clear on goal with terrible finishing straight at the keeper ,lets us hope he quickly develops more composure and more clinical finishing in front of goal.
