Oxford game

Postby zenfootball » Wed Apr 26, 2017 11:22 am

so wow what a roller coaster unless vale score ten goals against fleetwood we are staying up yet again by the skin of our teeth, let us be grateful it was not all resting on this result .we won the last game so can we do the double . there is nothing much in Oxford home and away form they have won the last two games comfortably beating vale and milwall . they do ship goals so it would be nice to finish on a win .the pressure is off the players our loyal travelling fans can relax and hope that next year will be better than the last two. top scores for Oxford are Chris Maguire 17 goals, Kane Hemmings 15 goals and Conor Mcalenye 10 if you compare that three Oxford players have scored 42 goals and towns whole squad have scored 46 that shows how poor our scoring ratio is .this is something town have failed to resolve for some time.i think we would do well to get a draw Oxford have improved since our last match and sit in a comfortable 9th place .saying that they are only 15 points above us which reinforces what a different season we might have had if we had not thrown so many games away.
let us hope Hurst can find the players we need as we face another rebuild in the closed season.

soon it will be all over for another season our frazzled nerves will have time to recover full of hope and Optimism July will quickly come round and we can start all over again. i hope the loyal travelling fans are rewarded with a good consistent performance from town.

with 12 minutes gone both of Oxfords full backs were off with injuries, you would think right press them and see how it goes but by 17 minutes Oxford were leading 2-0 . Oxfords Nelson runs unopposed from the half way line plays a one two and smashes it in, withing a blink of an eye more more shambolic defending as Oxford score from a cross .
fortunately for town who looked there for the taking after the goals Oxford took there foot off the gas and were content to go through the motions
Whalley was the only player who posed any threat but yet more catching practice for the oxford keeper , towns only chance feel to Yates who missed a sitter from a free header
Oxford defender gets booked and we don't bother him or press him as he would have to be careful. lots of aimless football and no quality.
Towns defender Riley was stretchered off so i hope it is not to serious .

Just because we are mathematical safe and it is an end of season game with nothing resting on the result. this feeble first half performance was inexcusable ,897 town fans turned up today, towns travelling fans pay a lot of money to follow there team and this season as last season we have had to watch a team who cant defend or score, who far too often don't turn up.in the first half 10 players had packed there suitcases for there holidays.just to rub salt in the wound an over zealous oxford official confiscates a towns fans beach ball.
it says a lot for how awful town were in an insipid first half when the radio commentators spent considerable time discussing the goings on in the neighboring retail car park!!

let us see if Hurst can do something to motivate the team for the second half

well Oxford were content to play at bottom gear and keep town at arms length.Payne had three half chances but the finishing was poor. Deegan came on as a sub and showed why i don't rate him, a dreadful pass and only Leutwiller save kept the score unchanged, he was then caught napping and disposed and Oxford shot goes wide .
the only bright spot was an eight minute appearance from one of our youth players MacIntyre ( i might have spell that incorrectly)
